Position Overview:
The Glazier Apprenticeship Program will balance and build your learning experience through several modalities. The program will combine online learning, hands-on learning with a mentor on the job, and classroom instruction. Graduating Glazier Apprentices will demonstrate a high level of skills and abilities and will receive the Glazier Apprentice State Certification and Portland Glass Certification.
As a Glazier Apprentice, you will learn and develop the following skills and abilities over 18-24 months:
· Assist in measuring, cutting, and installing glass and mirrors for various structures and fixtures
· Help in removal of old or broken glass before installation
· Understand blueprints and specifications to determine size, shape, and color of glass to be installed
· Assist with sealing and waterproofing glass installations
· Support in chip, crack, and scratch repair
· Assist experienced Glaziers in installation and repair of windows, skylights, storefronts, and display cases
· Help maintain tools and equipment
· Build strong customer service skills
· Follow all safety procedures while handling materials

As a Glazier Apprentice on the Portland Glass team, a typical day for you will include:
- Comprehending and completing online learning in a timely manner
- Achieving passing grades on all tests and quizzes
- Learning and developing glass installation and fabrication techniques under the guidance of experienced Glaziers
- Following precautions to ensure safe handling of glass and materials

(Required qualifications)
- Previous experience in construction or a similar field preferred
- Physical ability to work on scaffolding or ladders
- Excellent hand-eye coordination
- Willingness to follow directions and guidance of technicians and management
- Strong attention to detail
- Works well with technology, including office computers, phones, and equipment
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to pass a background check and drug test, per applicable state laws
- Education: High school diploma or GED
- Physical requirements: Must be able to lift minimum of 75 pounds
